Two masters of music and piano playing, reflected in Bach – this is roughly the scenario that the Italian pianist Gabriele Leporatti has conceived for his new Etera Classics album.

At the heart of the album is the creative “legacy” of Johann Sebastian Bach, whose work and spirit have shaped the history of music for two and a half centuries. His musical family includes the two contemporaries brought together here, Ferruccio Busoni and Sergei Rachmaninoff, who, despite their very different characters, converged at a common point: one was an intellectual who could never do enough when it came to counterpoint, while the other was the last of the Romantics, allowing himself and his audience to be swept away by the current of sound. The third member of this musical alliance is Gabriele Leporatti, who took inspiration from both and arranged for his instrument precisely those movements of the E-major Partita that Rachmaninoff had left untouched.
